MoMA Eindhoven :: Augmented Reality Gallery

I now exhibit my drawings in MoMA Eindhoven, Netherlands, in an augmented reality gallery as part of the DIY museum by Sander Veenhof. You can participate too, by uploading your artworks here >

Sander Veenhof pioneered the idea of infiltrating physical museum spaces with augmented reality exhibitions in New York back in 2010, proving there are no more boundaries. He and Mark Skwarek had an "Uninvited" augmented reality art opening at MoMA NYC. I wrote about this incredible event here >

As an artist who practices the oldest of art forms - drawing from life - I am captivated by the newest of art forms - augmented reality, wondering how the two will effect each other. Changing the way artists can exhibit art and what "exhibiting" actually means in augmented reality is just the beginning.

San Francisco :: People Watching on Fisherman's Wharf

People-watching. So many realities.

I did these drawings at the San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf in the midst of the July 4th festivities last summer.

It struck me that there were two distinct worlds, and you could not perceive both at the same time, for they ran parallel, without any points of intersection. There was the world of the tourists, and there was the world of the homeless. Once I focused on one, the other became invisible, and vice versa. The haunting, the black & white, the slow-moving and the heartbreaking did not mix with the cheerful, the colorful, the giddily disoriented and hastily erratic. I made it a point to see both, by drawing it.

Snow

I found a drawing I did on a crisp, cold, quiet day at Mystic Seaport, Connecticut, two years ago.
Snow was everywhere. So was quietness. Snow has that magic muting effect. Or maybe it's the whiteness that makes everything go hushhhhh. I miss it. The winter is too loud this year...

Ribot & Medeski at (Le) Poisson Rouge

upd: Thank you, Dustin, for the feature on the (le) poisson rouge blog!

John Medeski and Marc Ribot played at the (Le) Poisson Rouge last week with William Parker (bass) and Andrew Cyrille (drums). It was a very enjoyable night.  Seemed more of an impromptu jam than a rehearsed show, which is always better. A musical stream of consciousness by musicians of their stature is fascinating to listen to. Below are my iPad memories. They even gave a shout out to Auktyon, who couldn't leave Russia for their scheduled US performances with Ribot and Medeski. Needless to say, all the fans here were shattered by the news. I really hope to see them on stage together again soon.
